Verification of Competency (VOC)

Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments provide employers with documented evidence that workers can safely and competently operate plant and equipment in their current role and workplace.
At Jorking Training Group, we deliver onsite VOC assessments using your equipment, in your operating environment, with minimal disruption to productivity.
A Verification of Competency (VOC), sometimes referred to as Verification of Current Competency (VOCC), is a workplace-based assessment used by employers to meet Work Health and Safety (WHS) obligations.
Australian WHS legislation requires employers to ensure workers are competent to perform their duties — competency cannot be assumed based on licences, past training, or experience alone. VOCs provide current, documented verification of competency, particularly where high-risk plant is involved.
A VOC is commonly required:
-
Every 24 months
-
When an operator changes equipment or role
-
After incidents or near misses
-
When workplace risks or conditions change
Why Choose Onsite VOC Assessments?
Onsite VOCs allow operators to be assessed in real operating conditions, not simulated environments.
Benefits include:
-
Reduced downtime for workers
-
No travel or transport of staff
-
Assessment on actual equipment
-
Site-specific risk verification
-
Clear WHS-compliant documentation
Why Choose Jorking Training Group?
Not all VOCs deliver the same level of compliance.
Many assessments rely on generic checklists that fail to reflect real site hazards or operational requirements. Our VOCs are site-specific, role-specific, and compliance-driven.
Our assessments consider:
-
Operator experience and task exposure
-
Exact plant type and attachments
-
Site layout, traffic plans, and hazards
-
Current WHS legislation and relevant units of competency
We work directly with employers, safety managers, and site controllers to ensure assessments meet both legal obligations and internal safety standards.
VOC Assessment Methods
Depending on site requirements, assessments may include:
-
Workplace observation and practical demonstration
-
Knowledge or challenge assessments
-
Equipment-specific competency checks
-
Review of site procedures and controls
All assessments are conducted by industry-experienced assessors with strong operational and regulatory knowledge.
